ABOUT THE INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ELIMINATION OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN
The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, established by a United Nations General Assembly resolution in 1999, aims to raise awareness in society about violence against women.
The UN General Assembly declared November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women in 1999. The reason for designating this day as November 25 is based on an incident that occurred in the Dominican Republic in 1960. The three sisters known as the Mirabal Sisters, who were known to be opposed to the dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo, were brutally murdered days after Trujillo stated, "There are two dangers in the country: the church and the Mirabal Sisters!"
