In the Balçova district of İzmir, the funerals of Chief Inspector Muhsin Aydemir, a first-class police chief, and police officer Hasan Akın, who were martyred in an armed attack on a police station, were held in İzmir. Akın's father led the funeral prayer, while the family expressed, "Martyrs do not die; may they be neighbors to our Prophet. Do not cry; my brother would be upset if he saw."
In the Balçova district of İzmir, the funerals of first-class police chief inspector Muhsin Aydemir and police officer Hasan Akın, who were martyred in an armed attack on the police station, were buried in İzmir.
The bodies of the martyrs Aydemir (52) and Akın (36), wrapped in the Turkish flag, were brought to the 15 July Martyrs Mosque in Gaziemir district by funeral vehicles. The funeral ceremony held at noon was attended by the martyrs' families and relatives, as well as Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, İzmir Governor Süleyman Elban, Aegean Army and Garrison Commander General İrfan Özsert, AK Party Secretary General Eyyüp Kadir İnan, CHP Deputy Chairman Murat Bakan, some deputies from AK Party, MHP, and İYİ Party, İzmir Metropolitan Mayor Cemil Tugay, General Director of Security Mahmut Demirtaş, Coast Guard Air Commander Rear Admiral Ertuğrul Şerbetci, military personnel, representatives of political parties, and colleagues. The relatives of the martyrs wept and prayed as they embraced the coffin.
Hasan Akın - Muhsin Aydemir FATHER OF MARTYR HASAN AKIN CONDUCTED HIS PRAYER At the head of martyr police officer Hasan Akın's coffin, his family expressed, "Martyrs do not die, may they be neighbors to our Prophet. Do not cry, my brother would be angry if he saw." Martyr Akın's two daughters also came to say goodbye at their father's coffin. Akın's funeral prayer was conducted by his father Ferhat Akın, who is a retired imam.
After the İl Müftüsü Sinan Kazancı conducted the funeral prayer for martyr Aydemir, the bodies of the martyrs were carried to the funeral vehicles by the honor guard amid prayers. The body of martyr Aydemir was taken to the Işıkkent Police Martyrdom in Bornova district for burial, while martyr Akın's body was taken to the Ova Cemetery in the Kuşçular neighborhood of Urla district.
BOTH MARTYRS HAVE 2 CHILDREN EACH It was stated that martyr Muhsin Aydemir, who was married and a father of 2 children, started his duty at the İzmir Police Department in 1995, completed his duty in the Iğdır Police Department in 2009, and served successively in the Tekirdağ Police Department, the Counter-Terrorism Department, and the İzmir Police Department, and was appointed to the İzmir Inspection Board in 2021.
It was expressed that martyr Hasan Akın, who was married and a father of 2 children, started his duty at the Çanakkale Police Department in 2013, completed his duty in 2016 at the Hakkari Yüksekova District Police Department and Muş Bulanık District Police Department, and was appointed to the İzmir Police Department in 2020.
WHAT HAPPENED? Yesterday, an attack was carried out with a shotgun by E.B. (16) on the Salih İşgören Police Station in Balçova. In the attack, first-class police chief inspector Muhsin Aydemir and police officer Hasan Akın were martyred. Police officers Ömer Amilağ and Murat Dağlı, as well as a civilian, were injured in the attack. A total of 27 suspects were detained as part of the investigation.
