Qatar-based Al Jazeera reported, citing a Hamas source, that the attack targeted the Hamas ceasefire negotiation team that was in a meeting. Israeli media claimed that Hamas political leader Khalid Mashal and Hamas Political Bureau Chief Khalil al-Hayya were targeted in the attack. It was stated that 10 fighter jets participated in the attack, and missiles were launched from 1800 meters.

A Hamas official speaking to TRT Arabi regarding the attack said, "The Hamas negotiation team escaped the Israeli attack, but there are injured."
