In his statement regarding his resignation, Özarslan indicated that he experienced serious disappointment after receiving messages that he claimed were sent to him via WhatsApp by CHP Chairman Özgür Özel. Özarslan asserted that these messages contained severe insults and offensive language, arguing that this situation presented an unacceptable picture within the party.
Mesut Özarslan, the Mayor of Keçiören, stated, "After receiving these messages, I could not sleep until morning. There is a clear disrespect towards both my personal honor and the position I represent." He mentioned that he made the decision to resign because he felt there was no longer an opportunity to engage in politics within his party after the events that transpired.

In a statement shared with the public, Özarslan claimed that the messages he alleged were sent by Özel included expressions such as "dog," "f*** off," "lowly dog f*** off," "sycophant," and "characterless b***h." He argued that these expressions went beyond an internal party discussion and constituted clear insults.
"THIS SHOULD NOT BE THE LANGUAGE OF POLITICS"
While announcing his resignation, Özarslan also criticized the internal communication language of the party, stating, "Politics should not be conducted with a language of threats and insults. It is impossible for me to be under the same roof with this understanding." Özarslan expressed that he would continue to serve as the Mayor of Keçiören independently.
