In Çanakkale, 14-year-old Murat Duha Yıldız, who was brutally beaten by his classmates during a "you stepped on my foot" argument and experienced cardiac arrest twice, has become bedridden. His mother, stating that her child cannot speak or move, said, "We only see him sleeping and waking up. It breaks my heart to see my child lying like that."

In the Biga district of Çanakkale, peer bullying at İÇDAŞ Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School has darkened the life of a 14-year-old child. In an incident that occurred on September 25, it is claimed that Murat Duha Yıldız was brutally beaten by his classmate Y.C. over a dispute about "stepping on his foot," resulting in severe brain damage. Yıldız is currently receiving treatment at the Physical Therapy department of Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) Hospital.

HIS HEART STOPPED TWICE, ORGANS WERE DAMAGED

On the day of the incident, Yıldız was attacked by his classmate, suffering a blow to his heart and hitting his head on the desk, which caused a brain hemorrhage. After falling to the ground, the student continued to be kicked, resulting in bleeding in his lungs, liver, pancreas, and spleen. Murat's heart stopped twice in the ambulance and emergency room, but he was revived through interventions. After a 35-day intensive care process, he was moved to a regular ward.

BEATEN TO NEAR DEATH OVER "YOU STEPPED ON MY FOOT" ARGUMENT

Describing the horrifying moments, mother Çiğdem Yıldız said, "When the school bell rang in the classroom, my son stepped on his friend's foot while going to his seat. In one move, the child hit my son in the heart, causing him to fall to the ground. His head hit the table, and he suffered a brain hemorrhage. Even after he fell, they continued to kick him. He had bleeding in his lungs, liver, pancreas, and spleen, and his heart stopped as well. They called an ambulance. Then, his heart stopped again in the emergency room. They tried to revive my child for 20 minutes. After that, we went to ÇÖMÜ. He stayed in intensive care for 35 days. After 35 days, he was moved to a ward, but my son still cannot speak," she said.

“HE CANNOT MOVE, IT'S LIKE HE'S IN A VEGETATIVE STATE”

Mother Çiğdem Yıldız, who has not left her son's side for a moment, stated that Murat is being fed through a PEG (feeding tube) placed in his abdomen. The grieving mother expressed that she misses her son's active days, saying, "It's like he's in a vegetative state. The other party has been arrested and is in a juvenile detention center. Right now, we are receiving physical therapy here. He is doing well, I mean, he is improving. There is no speech. He cannot move. We only see him sleeping and waking up. Oh God, may no one be tested with their child; it is really very hard. I am still going through tough days. But seeing my child lying there tears me apart. Because he was a hyperactive child. He was a child who did not like to lie down or sleep. I don't know. But he will get better. I believe it," she expressed.

“ASK YOUR CHILD NOT ABOUT GRADES, BUT ABOUT RESPECT”

Mother Yıldız addressed the parents after the horrific incident, saying:

"Parents always ask, 'How is my child's grade?' I say, before grades, teach your children love, respect, and not to crush the person in front of them. When I went to school, the first question I would ask was, 'Is Murat's respect and love in place?' May God not test anyone with their child."

After the incident, the attacking student Y.C. was arrested for "attempted murder," and it was learned that the school principal and two assistant principals were suspended.
