WHAT IS SHEIK GALIP'S NAAT?

Sheikh Galip's Naat is a praise poem that expresses his deep love and admiration for the Prophet Muhammad, found at the beginning of his famous masnavi 'Hüsn ü Aşk'.

In his Naat, Sheikh Galip praises the Prophet as the highest guide of humanity and a mercy to the worlds. He describes both the material and spiritual beauty of the Prophet, referring to him as "the pinnacle of beauty and perfection." He expresses his admiration for the Prophet's existence and the message he brought in an enthusiastic, metaphorical, and mystical language. He emphasizes that his path is enlightening and salvific. This Naat is one of the most artistic and profound Naats written in classical Turkish literature.

The words of the Naat are as follows:

O sea of the perfections of Mustafa

No one can be like you, whoever they may be

They make the world joyful with lamentation

In the world, they always make it a joy with sorrow

You are the beloved who drinks from the cup of Kawthar

You are the light that will show the path of love

With your essence, the perfections of the prophets became complete

With your existence, the secret of the prophets is revealed

While your beauty is evident like the moon

Can beauty be expressed without you?

You are the eternal throne in the realm of the timeless

You are also the heart's expression in the time of loyalty
