Emphasizing that the Palestinian administration is not represented in the council, Sanchez stated, "We thank you for the invitation, but we decline."

A large number of countries were invited to the Peace Council, founded by U.S. President Donald Trump, which announced it would work with the United Nations (UN) to resolve international disputes. A total of 22 countries, including the U.S., participated in the Peace Council, whose founding charter was signed yesterday.

SPAIN REJECTS TRUMP'S INVITATION

While many countries were invited to the council by Trump, Spain responded negatively to this invitation. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez stated in a press conference following the European Union (EU) Leaders Summit held yesterday that they would not participate in the Peace Council, saying, "Thank you for the invitation, but we decline."

Prime Minister Sanchez emphasized that they did not participate in the initiative due to Spain's commitment to the UN and multilateralism, pointing out that the Palestinian administration was also not represented in the council.

"PEACE COUNCIL" ESTABLISHED FOR GAZA

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) decided to support the Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict announced by U.S. President Donald Trump on September 29, 2025, with its decision number 2803 dated November 17, 2025.

In this context, the Peace Council, which will be chaired by Trump, was established, and Trump invited President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as a founding member of the "Peace Council," responsible for the reconstruction and security of Gaza.

The signatures of the Peace Council, established under Trump's leadership, were signed yesterday in Davos, where the World Economic Forum was held. The signature on behalf of Turkey was made by Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
