Aydın Metropolitan Municipality's regular council meeting for September was postponed to September 16 due to tensions between CHP and AK Party members. The tension ended with the evacuation of the hall accompanied by police teams.
There were tense moments during the regular meeting of the Aydın Metropolitan Municipality Council, which is scheduled to take place today at 18:00. The tension suddenly rose when CHP members were not allowed inside due to a lack of space in the hall.
ÇERÇİOĞLU, WHO JOINED THE AK PARTY, DID NOT ATTEND
However, CHP members managed to enter the hall with difficulty. Aydın Metropolitan Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu, who was expected to preside over the meeting after resigning from CHP to join the AK Party, did not attend the meeting. Instead, Aydın Metropolitan Deputy Mayor Polat Bora Mersin presided over the meeting.
TENSION ESCALATED WHEN A PEN WAS THROWN
CHP members who wanted to follow the council in the hall confronted AK Party members. In the overcrowded hall, slogans were shouted back and forth. The tension escalated when a CHP member threw a pen at Mersin, who was presiding over the council. Chairman Mersin postponed the meeting to September 16 at 18:00.
POLICE ENTERED THE HALL
With Mersin's departure from the hall, slogans started again. The parties were controlled and removed from the municipal building by police teams. In front of the municipal building, AK Party members continued to chant slogans for Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for a while before dispersing.
