Terrifying moments at Gran Canaria Airport in Spain were captured on camera. An 18-year-old young man was shot and killed after attacking police and passengers with a knife at the airport, which is heavily used by British tourists.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon. The young man, who wanted to fly to Gambia, went into a rage when he was not allowed on the plane due to his ticket being dated May 22. The knife in the young man's backpack triggered the metal detector as he tried to force his way through security.

Security camera footage shows the out-of-control young man first attacking a taxi driver, then knocking one of the police officers trying to stop him to the ground. The young man, who posed a threat with a knife in a crowded area, ignored the police warnings as he ran towards other passengers.

National Police officers first issued a verbal warning to stop the young man. However, as he continued to attack the police, the officers were forced to open fire. The assailant was shot five times and died at the scene due to a bullet that struck his neck.

Police union spokesperson Ibon Dominguez stated, "The intervention was proportional and necessary. This person could easily have killed one of the police officers."

The High Court of Justice of the Canary Islands has launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident. The court stated, "The videos show that the assailant had lost his mind and posed a real danger by wandering around an area with many people while wielding a large knife."

Gran Canaria Airport, which serves approximately 14 million passengers annually, is particularly a popular destination for British holidaymakers. The incident occurred during a peak tourist season.
