TEACHER TOLD HER STUDENT "TURN AROUND, KARABAŞ" The incident occurred in the Erzin district of Hatay. According to the allegation, H.K. (11), a 5th-grade student studying at a middle school in the district, was subjected to the address "Turn around, Karabaş" by her science teacher when she turned around to get a pencil from her classmate during the lesson. The headscarf-wearing student H.K., unable to hold back her tears in front of her classmates, told her father about the situation when she got home. Her father, Harun K. (35), verbally complained to the school administration and the District National Education Directorate, and filed a written complaint with CİMER regarding the teacher. It was learned that the Hatay Governorship had initiated an administrative investigation into the matter following the complaints received.
"YOU CAN FILE A COMPLAINT WHEREVER YOU WANT" Harun K, who stated that he no longer wanted the teacher to enter his daughter's class, used the following expressions: "On May 9, my daughter got off the school bus and came to me crying. She said that the science teacher told her in a way that the whole class could hear, 'Karabaş, turn around.' I then called that teacher. I asked the teacher about the situation. She told me that she apologized to my daughter. 'I apologize to you too, but if you do not accept my apology, you can file a complaint wherever you want,' she said.
I first spoke with the school administration. I reported my complaint to them, then I filed a complaint with the District National Education Directorate. We do not have any issues with the school administration or the other teaching staff. Because the school is known as the school of champions. It is a school that produces at least 1-2 first-place students in Turkey every year. With God's permission, we will come out of this process with our heads held high. We are following the process, hopefully."
