A steel safe containing gold worth 2 million TL was stolen from the home of an elderly man in Amasya. During the police investigation, the steel safe, which had been cut with a spiral saw, was found in a riverbed 15 kilometers away. The elderly man's grandson, his grandson's husband, and his sister-in-law were taken into custody.
O.Ö. (73), who lives in the Hacılar Meydanı neighborhood, reported to the police after noticing that the steel safe was missing when he returned home late at night. The police, who determined that the front door of the house was opened with a key without any force, expanded their investigation.
OLD MAN SUSPECTED HIS GRANDSON
As a result of the technical surveillance by the Amasya Police Department's Public Order Branch, traces pointed to the grandson of the elderly man, who had previously obtained the house key.
SAFE FOUND 15 KM AWAY
The grandson E.D. (20), his wife K.D. (20), and K.D.'s brother G.D. (18) were caught and taken into custody after it was determined that they took the steel safe to Belmebük neighborhood, 15 kilometers away, cut it open with a spiral saw, and stole the gold worth 2 million TL inside. The steel safe was retrieved from the riverbed where it was thrown with the help of firefighters.
GOLD RETURNED TO OWNER
The gold and the steel safe were returned to the elderly man, while the suspect grandson was released after his statement. K.D. and his sister G.D. were referred to the courthouse. Son-in-law K.D. did not respond to reporters' question, "Why did you steal your grandfather's safe full of gold?"
