The co-chair of the DEM Party, Tülay Hatimoğulları, emphasized the need to abolish the trustee law and strengthen local governments, stating, "One of the most fundamental steps to be taken today is the immediate abolition of the trustee law related to this process and the withdrawal of appointed trustees; they should go back to being governors or district governors. The path to a democratic society goes through here."
DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları, who attended the 2-day interim meeting of the DEM Party Democratic Local Governments Council, made striking statements.
"THE KAYYUM REGIME MUST END"
Expressing that the kayyum law should be abolished and local governments should be strengthened, Hatimoğulları stated, "These kayyums are a result of an understanding that wants to take away the right of the Kurdish people to vote and be elected, and on the other hand, it is a huge blow against women's representation, co-presidency, and equal representation. However, we have never given up after each kayyum was appointed. We continued our work among the people. With each election, we have progressed, multiplying our strength despite all pressures. We once again call out to the kayyum mentality from here. In a period where peace and the democratic society process are being discussed, the kayyum mentality and oppressive regime really need to come to an end."
"LET THEM GO, LET THEM BE GOVERNORS AND DISTRICT GOVERNORS"
Continuing her words, Hatimoğulları said, "One of the most fundamental steps to be taken today is the immediate abolition of the kayyum law and the withdrawal of appointed kayyums." She added, "Let them go, let them be governors and district governors, and let the co-chairs elected by the people come to their duties. This is the most natural right of this society. It is the most natural and fundamental right of all voters and citizens in the municipalities where kayyums are appointed, especially the Turkish people in this geography."
ERDOĞAN HAD GIVEN A SIGNAL
In a recent statement, President Erdoğan, who signaled a new regulation for municipalities, said, "We think that the kayyum practice in municipalities will become an exception again."
