The H3N2 influenza virus, which has undergone at least 7 mutations and has plunged some European countries into chaos, has also been detected in Turkey. Experts are issuing serious warnings, especially for the elderly and those with chronic illnesses, due to the risk of high fever reaching 40 degrees and severe pneumonia.

It has been reported that the mutated H3N2 influenza virus has started to show its effects in Turkey. The virus, which has been confirmed to have undergone at least 7 mutations, is one of the types of influenza, and it has been noted that flu cases have appeared earlier than expected this year. The disease is characterized by high fever, severe headaches, joint pains, and a dry cough.

CLINICAL PICTURE RESEMBLES SWINE FLU

According to a report on NTV, Dr. Gökçe Demir, an Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology Specialist, stated in his evaluation of the H3N2 virus that the clinical picture of the virus closely resembles that of swine flu. Demir noted that this year, there has been an increase in cases particularly characterized by joint pain and fever reaching up to 40 degrees, emphasizing that intense headaches and dry cough are prominent in patients.

EXTREMELY DANGEROUS FOR INDIVIDUALS OVER 65

Demir pointed out that the virus progresses much more severely in certain groups, stating that in individuals over 65, as well as in patients with hypertension and diabetes, and those with chronic lung diseases such as asthma and COPD, the disease can progress to severe pneumonia. He emphasized that serious conditions leading to respiratory failure can be observed in these cases.

THE MOST EFFECTIVE METHOD IS THE FLU VACCINE

Dr. Demir indicated that the most effective method of prevention is the flu vaccine, stating that it is not too late to get vaccinated. He mentioned that September is the ideal time, but individuals who have not contracted the flu in the fall can still get vaccinated until January and February. Demir also highlighted the importance of hand hygiene and recommended that individuals in the risk group use masks in public transportation.
