POLICE INTERVENED WHEN VICTIMS COULDN'T RETRIEVE THEIR GOLD
The incident came to light when a jeweler, who has been active in Sultangazi for a long time, was accused of disappearing with gold taken from citizens for investment purposes. On Monday, after the shop was closed and the jeweler could not be reached, many people reported to the police.
CROWD GATHERED AT THE JEWELER'S SHOP
Residents who could not retrieve their gold filed a complaint, thinking they had been defrauded. Victims gathered in front of the shop, fearing they had lost their savings.
Among the victims, cleaning worker Güldane Yıldız tearfully recounted her ordeal:
"I gave 12 quarter and one half gold here. I learned via phone that the man had fled, and I rushed here immediately. I saved my money by cleaning stairs; my son is sick, I’m renting. I never thought it would come to this. I want my gold back. Oh God, what will happen, we are really in trouble."
TAKEN INTO CUSTODY
Teams from the Sultangazi District Police Department initiated an investigation following the complaints. As a result of the research, a jeweler named Atilla K. was apprehended and taken into custody. Police sources stated that the investigation is ongoing and that with the increase in new applications, both the number of victims and the total amount of damage could rise.
