M.E.K., who targeted Mihalgazi Mayor Zeynep Güneş through her headscarf and traditional attire, was detained as part of an investigation launched for the crime of "inciting the public to hatred and hostility."

The social media user with the nickname "MEKorkmazTR" targeted Mihalgazi Mayor Zeynep Güneş in Eskişehir through her headscarf and local attire.

SCANDALOUS WORDS

M.E.K. said: "Is it the duty of this political Islamist woman in baggy trousers to manage the district, or to milk cows in her barn? The poor thing must be confused about her place... At least my mother's attire and education are respectable!"

ACCOUNT CLOSED

Reactions to the post were swift. Following the backlash, Korkmaz closed his social media account.

STRONG REACTION FROM THE AK PARTY: DISPLAYED HIS OWN IGNORANCE

Gürhan Albayrak, the AK Party Eskişehir Provincial Chairman, expressed strong criticism of Korkmaz in a statement on his social media account. Albayrak said: "This elitist mentality that perceives the baggy trousers and traditional attire of Anatolian women as 'ignorance' has actually displayed its own ignorance. Attacking a mayor elected by the votes of our Mihalgazi citizens for three terms based on her appearance is an insult to the values of this nation."

"WE CONDEMN THIS IMPUDENT LANGUAGE TARGETING ATTIRE"

We condemn this impudent language that targets the will and attire of the people. Those who fight against the essence of these lands are always doomed to lose. Your arrogance could not defeat our Anatolian wisdom and it never will! We are always by the side of our president Zeynep Güneş against these foul-mouthed individuals."
