The TBMM commission established to investigate the fire at the Grand Kartal Hotel in Bolu Kartalkaya, which claimed the lives of 78 people, listened to the AFAD officials.
THE COMMISSION IS GOING TO KARTALKAYA
Before the presentation of AFAD, the commission chairman, AK Party Erzurum Deputy Selami Altınok, stated, "Tomorrow, representatives from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism will make their statements regarding the hotel fire. We have made our preparations, and God willing, on Friday, together with our delegation, we will go to Bolu Kartalkaya and inspect the hotel where this tragic event occurred. We experienced a painful and heinous incident that burned our hearts, plunged our nation into mourning, and caused 85 million people to writhe in pain, resulting in the loss of 78 lives. Especially considering that 36 of them were children and that we had needy children, even speaking about the incident knots the words in one's throat. I believe we will carry out our responsibility regarding what we can do to prevent such tragedies from happening again with goodwill," he expressed.
"WE RECEIVED THE NECESSARY INFORMATION FROM MY FRIENDS WORKING THERE"
Following Commission Chairman Altınok, AFAD President Ali Hamza Pehlivan stated that he had just started his duty and said, "I was in Mersin during the unfortunate fire that occurred in Bolu Kartalkaya. First and foremost, as a human being, we followed these developments with a heavy heart. Of course, this unfortunate fire burned us inside as a nation. After such a duty was assigned, we received the necessary information from my friends working there. The primary duty of our AFAD Presidency is to coordinate the intervention in disasters and emergencies and to carry out the necessary operations in this regard," he said.
"AFAD WAS AT THE FIRE SITE WITHIN 55 MINUTES AFTER THE REPORT WAS MADE"
Dr. Sadi Ergin, General Director of Disaster Response, made a presentation to the commission members. Ergin stated regarding the hotel fire, "The fire report primarily came to the 112 station. After the report was made to 112, the AFAD Presidency, AFAD Provincial Directorate personnel, Fire Brigade, Gendarmerie, and Health teams mobilized for intervention. The report to 112 started at 03:27, and the Kartalkaya Gendarmerie Station arrived at the scene within 24 minutes. Health teams were on the scene within 46 minutes. The Fire Brigade arrived at the scene 57 minutes later, but it is quite normal for the fire truck to be delayed by 10 minutes as it had a large tanker and was going uphill. 112 evaluated that AFAD had little connection to the fire and did not report it at 03:27; it was reported at 04:03. Our AFAD teams were at the fire site within 55 minutes," he said.
