The international higher education ranking organization Times Higher Education has included 4 Turkish universities in the top 500 and 15 Turkish universities in the top 1000 of the 2026 World University Rankings. Koç University is ranked 301-350, Middle East Technical University and Sabancı University are ranked 351-400, and Boğaziçi University is ranked 401-500.

The international higher education ranking organization Times Higher Education (THE) has placed 4 Turkish universities in the top 500 and 15 Turkish universities in the top 1000 in the 2026 World University Rankings.
According to a statement from the Higher Education Council (YÖK), this year, 109 universities, including 28 with "Reporter" status, were included in the ranking, compared to 91 universities from Turkey last year.
In the ranking, which evaluated 2,191 higher education institutions from a total of 115 countries, Koç University ranked 301-350, Middle East Technical University (METU) and Sabancı University ranked 351-400, and Boğaziçi University ranked 401-500, successfully entering the top 500.
Istanbul Technical University (ITU) ranked 501-600, Bilkent University, Kadir Has University, and Yıldız Technical University ranked 601-800, while Abdullah Gül University, Atatürk University, Bahçeşehir University, Çankaya University, Hacettepe University, Istanbul Medipol University, and Özyeğin University found places in the 801-1000 band.
In the ranking, 25 Turkish universities also placed in the 1001-1500 range. Abdullah Gül University, which was not on the list last year, entered the top 1000 this year. 18 universities were included in the ranking for the first time.
Anadolu University, Bartın University, Fırat University, Gelişim University, İstinye University, İzmir Institute of Technology, and Selçuk University ranked 1001-1200, while Akdeniz University, Ankara University, Biruni University, Düzce University, Ege University, Erciyes University, Gazi University, Gebze Technical University, İnönü University, Istanbul Medeniyet University, Istanbul University, Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa, Necmettin Erbakan University, Sakarya University, Süleyman Demirel University, TOBB University of Economics and Technology, and Health Sciences University ranked in the 1201-1500 band.
In the statement, YÖK President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar expressed his appreciation for the achievements of Turkish universities in international rankings, stating:
"The increasing successes of our universities, especially in recent years, have started to reflect in international rankings. It is a pleasing development that a record number of our universities are finding places in the rankings and rising to higher positions. We want Turkish universities to be among the best 100 universities in the world. We firmly believe that as long as our universities focus on these goals, they will enhance their quality and achieve success."
