Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, disturbed by Turkey's provision of kamikaze drones to Kosovo, stated, "Turkey is leading the armament of Kosovo." Responding to the accusation from the President of Kosovo that "Turkey is being threatened," Vucic said, "We are too small to threaten Turkey. Erdoğan is the greatest Turkish leader after Mustafa Kemal Pasha."
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, held an extraordinary press conference. Vucic addressed the delivery of thousands of Turkish-made Skydagger kamikaze drones to Kosovo yesterday and also touched upon the relations between Turkey and Serbia. Vucic, who sees Kosovo as part of Serbia since it declared its unilateral independence in 2008, claimed that supplying weapons to Kosovo is contrary to the interests of Serbia and the Serbian people.
SERBIAN PRESIDENT: ERDOĞAN IS THE GREATEST TURKISH LEADER AFTER ATATÜRK In response to criticism in the Serbian press regarding his friendship with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan following Turkey's supply of weapons to Kosovo, Vucic stated, "I will always be a good host when it comes to President Erdoğan. What is at stake here is a great leader and a great and successful country. What is at stake here is Erdoğan, who has resurrected Ankara from its ashes, changed the face of Istanbul, and is undoubtedly the greatest Turkish leader after Mustafa Kemal Pasha, and he will always be welcomed in our country."
Emphasizing that it is also his duty to fight for the interests of his people while establishing good relations with Turkey, Vucic said he would discuss the issue of arms shipments to Kosovo with President Erdoğan. He noted that they discussed this matter at the Türkevi, which hosts Turkey's Permanent Mission to the UN in New York, and which he described as "another success of President Erdoğan." Vucic stated, "About a year ago, I asked President Erdoğan to stop the arms support to Pristina. President Erdoğan, his closest aide, and Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan were also present at the meeting."
"TURKEY IS LEADING IN ARMING KOSOVO" Vucic argued that the aim of the Kosovo administration is to transform the Kosovo Security Force into an army within a 10-year plan, stating, "For this purpose, they are naturally allocating development budget resources accordingly. The supply of complex combat systems is increasingly intensifying. The country leading in this regard is Turkey. You may have noticed that the Germans, the British, the Croats, the Slovenes, all are giving something (to Kosovo)."
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic Vucic pointed out that among the defense products supplied from Turkey to Kosovo are Skydagger, OMTAS, Bayraktar, Otokar Land Rover, BMC Vuran, Otokar Kobra, assault rifles, and sniper rifles, stating, "The most striking among modern combat vehicles is the Skydagger kamikaze drones. The supply contract for Skydagger, which means 'Celestial Dagger,' was signed on December 24, and delivery was planned for January 26, but it was delivered yesterday, as praised by (Kosovo Prime Minister) Kurti."
Emphasizing that Turkey's stance is of great importance for the stability of the region, Vucic said, "We do not need an escalation of tensions. We will maintain peace and stability. We ask our Turkish partners to talk to us and consider our interests."
"WE ARE TOO SMALL TO THREATEN TURKEY" Addressing the issue of Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani accusing him of "threatening Turkey" yesterday, Vucic stated, "We are too small to threaten Turkey. Turkey is the second-largest power in NATO. The only thing I said in the message is that Turkey is a great power and that we understood the message given to us. However, it does not matter how small we are. It is our duty to protect our people's freedom and right to survive."
Vucic, who stated that he understands how important Turkey is and how great and influential a leader President Erdoğan is, said, "I strive to establish and develop the best and closest relations with Turkey, and I have succeeded in this. It is also true that the relations between Turkey and Serbia are experiencing a golden age."
On the other hand, Vucic noted that he cannot remain silent about the arming of Kosovo, as doing so would make him be called a "coward." The Serbian leader stated that he cannot maintain his relations with Turkey at the expense of the Serbian presence in Kosovo.
"I WILL ALWAYS RESPECT PRESIDENT ERDOĞAN" Vucic, who reacted to the arming of Kosovo, argued that defending the interests of the Serbian people and his friendship with Erdoğan are not related, stating, "I will always respect President Erdoğan. I was one of the first leaders to support him during the treacherous coup attempt, and I have no regrets about it. If it happened again, tomorrow, I would do it again. I stand against those who try to overthrow someone against the will of the people, with the malicious intent of outsiders."
