The President of Ukraine, Zelensky, responded to Putin's call by saying, "I will meet with Putin in Turkey on Thursday."
Critical moments are being experienced in the ceasefire steps taken to end the Russia-Ukraine War, which has been ongoing for 4 years. Following Russian President Putin's call for negotiations with Ukraine in Turkey, U.S. President Donald Trump called on Ukraine.
"MUST ACCEPT IMMEDIATELY"
Trump stated regarding Russian leader Vladimir Putin's proposal for a peace summit in Turkey, "Putin does not want a ceasefire agreement with Ukraine. Instead, he wants to meet in Turkey to negotiate the possibility of ending this war that has turned into a bloodbath. Ukraine must accept this immediately."
RESPONSE FROM ZELENSKY
Shortly after Trump's statement, Ukrainian President Zelensky announced that he accepted Putin's offer. Zelensky said, "We expect a complete and permanent ceasefire starting tomorrow to create the necessary ground for diplomacy. I will meet with Putin in Turkey on Thursday."
WHAT HAPPENED?
Russian President Vladimir Putin stated at a press conference held yesterday in the capital Moscow, "We are declaring a ceasefire for the third time in Ukraine," and proposed the unconditional resumption of direct talks with Ukraine in Istanbul on May 15.
Putin highlighted Turkey's role in organizing the Russia-Ukraine negotiations and announced that he would meet with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in reference to today.
On the other hand, limited progress had been made in previous meetings held in Istanbul and Antalya, and a permanent ceasefire could not be achieved.
