CHP member Cavit Arı claimed that the three-person trustee committee appointed to the fishermen's shelter in Antalya, which supports the livelihoods of approximately 400 fishermen, has unlawfully remained in power. While the fishermen hold the trustee responsible for the fire that turned three boats to ashes, Cemal Talas, the President of the Fishermen's Cooperative, who argues that the previous management should return to office, asked, "Who has been promised what to turn the shelter into a marina?"
The three-person trustee committee appointed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry last year to the fishermen's shelter in Antalya, which supports the livelihoods of 400 fishermen, is claimed to have taken over the management despite the court only granting the authority to hold an extraordinary meeting without going to elections.
"PREVIOUS MANAGERS SHOULD BE REINSTATED"
CHP Antalya Deputy Cavit Arı brought the issue to the agenda during the budget discussions of the Ministry of Agriculture in the Turkish Grand National Assembly. Stating that the initial appointment of the trustee was made to hold a cooperative general assembly and identify the managers, Arı said that despite a year passing, the trustee has remained in the managerial position. Arı stated that the trustee management has continued beyond its intended purpose, saying, "The previous manager friends who served there should be reinstated. Otherwise, there is currently an unlawful situation. I demand the appointment of the previous managers."

Recently, three fishing boats were turned to ashes due to a lightning strike at the fishermen's shelter during the night. A fisherman who reached out to the News.com WhatsApp Tip Line stated, "The fire grew because the fire hydrants at the fishermen's shelter were not working, the boats were taken ashore in a way that would hinder the intervention of the fire department, there was no night watch personnel to carry out the necessary controls at the shelter, and the cameras overlooking the docks were also turned off, which prevented the fire from being noticed in advance. The responsible party for all this is the trustee management that has been unlawfully present at the shelter for a year. By taking boats into emergency response areas, the trustee management has clearly committed the crime of abuse of power by granting privileges to these boat owners," he expressed.

The President of the Fishermen's Cooperative, Cemal Talas, stated that the main reason for the fire reaching this magnitude is the trustee management that has been running the shelter for over a year.
Pointing out that the previous management was acquitted by the court, which was cited as the reason for the appointment of a trustee, yet the trustee continues to serve, Talas said, "There is only one logical explanation for this insistence while the court decisions are clear. They are buying time to overturn the previous court results. Why do they want to take over the Antalya Fishermen's Shelter so badly? Who was promised to turn the shelter into a marina?"
