After the decision of the terrorist organization PKK to disband and lay down arms, three scenarios have emerged regarding the situation and position of the terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan. In the corridors of power, there is speculation that the DEM Party will be restructured through an extraordinary congress and that Öcalan may establish a new party. There is also curiosity about whether he could lead the newly restructured party and whether a path to the Parliament could be opened for him.
During the congress held between May 5-7, the terrorist organization PKK, which made the decision to dissolve, announced this decision to the public with a written statement. The statement reported the decisions to dissolve the organizational structure and to end the armed struggle methods.
DEMAND FOR DEMOCRATIC POLITICAL RIGHTS
According to a news report in Milliyet, in its statement regarding the dissolution and the end of armed struggle methods, the PKK requested that Abdullah Öcalan lead and guide the process for the implementation of these decisions, and emphasized the need for recognition of democratic political rights. This has brought up three scenarios regarding Öcalan's situation and position in the upcoming process in the corridors of power.
1- Although the DEM Party and the organization constantly demand "physical freedom," it is known that Öcalan does not want to leave Imralı due to security concerns.
2- It is stated that there may be an opportunity for Öcalan to be provided with a more comfortable environment for contacts and dialogues related to the process. It is mentioned that an administrative decision could provide a broader working environment and that the arrangements to be brought up could increase the opportunities for meetings with DEM Party members. The provision of telephone rights is also listed among the opportunities to be granted.
3- It is also discussed in the corridors that the DEM Party will be reorganized through an extraordinary congress based on the decisions of the PKK congress. In this context, there is curiosity about whether Öcalan will establish a party, whether he will lead the newly reorganized party, and whether a path to the Parliament will be opened for him. However, the current constitution and the provisions of the Political Parties Law do not allow this at all.
