Morgan Stanley announced that a wage increase of 20-25% is expected for the minimum wage in 2026. If this rate materializes, the net minimum wage will be between 26,524 and 27,630 lira. The bank, which accurately predicted last year's increase, has disappointed employees with its forecast for this year.
A striking prediction has emerged regarding the minimum wage increase in 2026, which millions of employees are eagerly awaiting. The U.S.-based investment bank Morgan Stanley announced that the minimum wage could be increased by 20-25% in the new year.
LAST YEAR'S INCREASE WAS ALSO ACCURATELY PREDICTED
Morgan Stanley accurately predicted the increase made in January of last year. During its visits to Turkey this year, the bank, which met with representatives from the public and private sectors, forecasts an increase in the range of 20-25% in line with inflation targets. Accordingly, in the scenario of a 20% increase, the minimum wage will rise to 26,524 lira, while in the case of a 25% increase, it will reach 27,630 lira.
CITIZENS EXPERIENCED DISAPPOINTMENT
The rapid erosion of salaries in the face of high inflation had increased employees' expectations for an interim raise. However, the decision not to make an additional increase in the minimum wage for 2025 shifted the focus to 2026. As Morgan Stanley's predictions fell short of expectations, it created disappointment among workers.
HOW IS THE MINIMUM WAGE DETERMINED?
The minimum wage is determined each year by the Minimum Wage Determination Commission. The commission, which convenes at the call of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, consists of representatives from workers, employers, and the government. The minimum wage, determined by taking into account economic conditions, inflation rates, and living costs, is finalized by a majority vote.
FIGURE DETERMINED FOR 2025
The Ministry of Labor and Social Security had announced the minimum wage for 2025 as follows:
- Gross Monthly Wage: 26,005.50 TL
- Net Monthly Wage: 22,104.67 TL
The rate of increase to be made for the new year is eagerly awaited by millions of employees.
