The claim that subscribers will face a fine of 10,000 TL if old natural gas meters are not replaced by December 31, 2025, has become a hot topic. However, GAZBİR stated that subscribers have no obligation to notify or make any payments regarding the meter replacement.

The claim that subscribers who do not renew their old natural gas meters will be fined 10,000 TL has caused a wide reaction in the public. Following reports that the meters must be changed by December 31, 2025, the Natural Gas Distributors Association of Turkey (GAZBİR) made a statement on the matter.

CLAIMS DENIED

GAZBİR made a statement regarding news titled "Those who do not change their natural gas meter within 45 days will be fined 10,000 TL," which appeared in some media outlets. The statement indicated that the claim that the Ministry of Industry and Technology set the expiration date for old meters as December 31, 2025, is incorrect.

CALIBRATION OF METERS IS DONE EVERY 10 YEARS

GAZBİR emphasized that the technical process regarding the meters operates as follows:

"The calibration of natural gas meters is carried out by natural gas distribution companies every 10 years, in accordance with the Measurement and Measurement Instruments Regulation. Therefore, subscribers are not obligated to take any action regarding meter changes. There is no requirement for a fee or application from the subscriber."

The statement also included the following expressions:

"Throughout Turkey, natural gas subscribers do not have any notification or payment obligation during the calibration process of their natural gas meters."
