The U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dorothy Shea, stated in her remarks regarding Iran, "The Iranian government must abandon its nuclear ambitions to prevent further destruction and choose the welfare of its people."
The United States Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) Dorothy Shea stated, "The Iranian government must abandon its nuclear ambitions to prevent further destruction and choose the welfare of its people."
The United Nations Security Council held an emergency meeting at Iran's request. During the meeting, the U.S. Permanent Representative to the UN, Dorothy Shea, said that Iran's nuclear activities must be halted to achieve peace.
THREATENING WORDS
Shea, who stated, "The Iranian government will gain nothing by launching missile attacks on civilians, escalating its rhetoric against the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and threatening its neighbors in the region," added, "For a long time, they have prioritized their nuclear programs and terrorism over the needs of their people. As a result, their weaknesses are now visible to the entire world."
The U.S. Representative also said, "The Iranian government must abandon its nuclear ambitions to prevent further destruction and choose the welfare of its people."
"IRAN CAN STILL DO THE RIGHT THING"
Shea, who stated, "The Iranian government can still do the right thing. It must end its threats to its neighbors and international peace," reminded that U.S. President Donald Trump clearly expressed that Iran must completely abandon its nuclear enrichment activities and efforts to acquire nuclear weapons. Shea argued that Iran has long posed a threat to neighboring countries and world peace, saying, "The attacks carried out just hours ago on the largest hospital in southern Israel and the city of Haifa are a reflection of this attitude."
"THIS CONFLICT WOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED IF IRAN HAD ACCEPTED THE AGREEMENT"
Shea claimed that Iran has closed off peaceful solutions by rejecting past proposals related to its nuclear program, stating, "If Iran had accepted the agreement, these conflicts would not have occurred. However, it chose to pursue denial and delay tactics."
Shea, who claimed that Iran has now reached the technical capability required to obtain nuclear weapons, stated, "The only thing needed is for Iran's Supreme Leader to make a decision in this direction. This Council must call on Iran to change its course."
Recalling that three American soldiers lost their lives in an attack on a U.S. base in Jordan, U.S. Representative Shea said, "This is no longer acceptable. Iran's actions are directly targeting U.S. citizens as well."
"THE U.S. WILL CONTINUE TO STAND BY ISRAEL"
U.S. Representative Shea stated that the U.S. will continue to support Israel's right to self-defense, saying, "The U.S. has not directly intervened in Israel's attacks but will continue to stand by it as an ally and support all necessary steps against Iran's nuclear activities."
"IT IS CRUCIAL FOR THE IAEA TO FULFILL ITS RESPONSIBILITIES"
The U.S. Representative also expressed appreciation for the work of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) President Rafael Grossi and the agency's technical team, stating, "As Grossi has also indicated, it is of great importance for the IAEA to fulfill its critical responsibilities with professionalism, especially during this complex and dangerous period."
