OPERATION
The Istanbul Police Department's Financial Crimes Branch, coordinated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, conducted efforts to prevent crimes including "establishing an organization to commit crimes," "qualified fraud," and "laundering proceeds of crime," as well as to apprehend the suspects.
Within this scope, as a result of MASAK reports prepared regarding Ahbap Association employees, examinations of account movements, and technical and physical surveillance, it was determined that the suspects had high-value money movements inconsistent with their financial profiles, carried out large-scale money transfers among themselves, transferred high amounts of money to gambling accounts and placed bets, thereby losing significant sums, and also conducted a chain of numerous title deed transfers in a short period.
As part of the investigation, 17 suspects, including the association's founder, singer Haluk Levent, identified as being connected to Ahbap Association members and employees, were taken into custody in an operation on July 12. Following continued efforts, 9 more suspects were apprehended.
After police procedures, 1 of the suspects was released, while 25 suspects were referred to the courthouse.
In a simultaneous operation organized by the Istanbul Provincial Gendarmerie Command's Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Branch in Istanbul, Izmir, Kocaeli, and Mugla, an additional 17 suspects were taken into custody.
