A severe thunderstorm accompanied by heavy rain and lightning, which affected 10 districts in the state of Bihar, India, claimed the lives of 10 people. Most of the victims were either working in the fields or seeking shelter under trees during the rain when they were struck by lightning.

At least 19 people have died and 7 others have been injured as a result of lightning strikes in the eastern state of Bihar, India. According to All India Radio (AIR), the official radio station of India, intense rainfall and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning have been affecting 10 regions of Bihar for the past 24 hours. It has been reported that most of the victims were either working in the fields or seeking shelter under trees during the rain when the lightning struck.



The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for the next 24 hours in the northern, southeastern, and southern-central parts of Bihar, warning of heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Every year, hundreds of people in India lose their lives due to lightning strikes during the monsoon season.
