Two police officers and as many assailants were killed when motorbike-riding gunmen opened fire on a police station in northern Benin on Sunday, local media reported.
The police station in the Dassari district, near the border with Burkina Faso, was attacked at 2 a.m. local time (0100GMT). Besides those killed, one officer was wounded, local news outlet 24 Heures reported, "ing security sources.
No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
The district's administrative head reportedly confirmed the attack, saying that calm had been restored following "army reinforcement," according to the report.
The assailants also set ablaze impounded motorcycles at the station.
This was the second such attack on a police station in two months.
In April, a group of armed men attacked a police station in northern Benin near the border with Niger and killed an officer before setting fire to the building. -
