Amid the escalating war between the US, Israel, and Iran, China announced that it will send $200,000 in emergency aid to the Iranian Red Crescent to support the families of students who lost their lives in a school attack in Iran.
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that humanitarian aid will be provided to support the families of students who lost their lives in an attack on a school in Iran during the US-Israel-Iran tensions. The ministry stated that the Chinese Red Cross will donate $200,000 in emergency aid to the Iranian Red Crescent.
"AGAINST THE CONSCIENCE OF HUMANITY"
Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated that the aid will be used especially to express condolences and support for the families of the students who lost their lives in the attack. Guo emphasized that attacks on schools and children are serious violations of international humanitarian law, expressing that such actions are "against the conscience of humanity."
"WE WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT THE PEOPLE OF IRAN"
The Chinese government also expressed its readiness to continue providing humanitarian support to the people of Iran and highlighted the importance of protecting civilians in the region.
DOZENS OF CHILDREN HAD LOST THEIR LIVES
In the attacks initiated by the US and Israel on February 28, the Shajaret al-Tayyiba Girls' Primary School in the city of Minab, located in the Hormozgan province in the south of the country, was bombed. In the attack, 185 people, mostly children, lost their lives.
WHY IS CHINA GETTING INVOLVED IN THE PROCESS?
China is taking a supportive position towards Iran for diplomatic and strategic reasons. There are several key reasons for this:
1. Energy and oil interests
China is one of the world's largest energy importers and imports significant amounts of oil from Iran. The war in the Middle East threatens oil routes and especially the energy trade passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Therefore, China is getting involved in the process to ensure that instability in the region does not affect its energy security.
2. Strategic partnership with Iran
China and Iran have strengthened their economic and political partnership in recent years. The Beijing administration has also stated that it supports Iran's right to self-defense against US and Israeli attacks.
3. Global power competition with the US
China often criticizes US military interventions in the Middle East and states that it is against "regime change" policies. For this reason, it diplomatically opposes attacks on Iran.
4. Global power balance
The Beijing administration believes that Iran's weakening could increase the influence of the US and its allies in the region. Therefore, it does not want Iran to be completely isolated.
