Following the ship disaster that occurred off the coast of the city of Kyrenia in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, within the scope of duty changes at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, Undersecretary of the Ministry Enver Türk, Ministry Director Mustafa Ambar, and Director of the Ports Department Emsal Emirzadeoğulları were dismissed from their duties.
While the investigation into the catamaran-type passenger ship that capsized and sank off the coast of Kyrenia, TRNC, on August 30, and search and rescue operations in the region continue, changes in duty at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport are also ongoing.
THREE MORE OFFICIALS DISMISSED
Following Erhan Arıklı, who was removed from his post as Minister of Public Works and Transport by Prime Minister Ünal Üstel on September 2, three more officials within the ministry have been dismissed.
According to the published decrees, it was decided to dismiss Enver Türk, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, Mustafa Ambar, Ministry Director, and Emsal Emirzadeoğulları, Director of the Ports Department. It was stated that these dismissals came into effect as of today.
THE SHIP THAT SANK OFF KYRENIA
The high-speed passenger ship named "Filo Jet," operating between the Kyrenia Port in the TRNC and the Taşucu Port in Mersin, began taking on water from its bow shortly after departing from Kyrenia at midday on Sunday, August 30, and sank while trying to return to Kyrenia Port.
TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel stated that following the sinking of the ship, the bodies of 12 people had been recovered, and search efforts continued for 16 missing people.
Üstel also reported that the wreck of the sunken ship was found at a depth of 554 meters off the coast of Kyrenia.
