In the trial where the leader of the organized crime group, involved in various crimes including the killing of 4 people known as 'Deveciler' in Adana, along with 43 defendants, all the detained defendants were released with a travel ban imposed during the first hearing.

The trial of 43 defendants, including the leader of an organized crime group known as the 'Deveciler' in Adana and Northern Cyprus, began with the murder of 4 people and their involvement in various crimes. C.I. (58), the leader of the organization, and 6 others, including his son Y.I., who were in custody, were accused of multiple aggravated life sentences. While C.I. and Y.I. denied the charges against them, all the detained defendants were released with a travel ban imposed during the first hearing.

The Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Branch of the Provincial Police Department revealed the organized crime group called the 'Deveciler', who were allegedly responsible for the murders of Ahmet Büyükgöçer, Bedirhan Baygara, Ozan Büyükgöçer, and Rıdvan Demir, as well as several assault and robbery incidents. The police took action to apprehend the 43 individuals suspected of being members of the organization. On December 23, 2022, raids were conducted at 58 addresses in Adana, Istanbul, Gaziantep, Nevşehir, and Northern Cyprus. C.I., who was allegedly the leader of the organization, was arrested in Northern Cyprus with his bodyguards, while his son Y.I. was detained in a residence in Istanbul. During the search of the residence, a light machine gun, a signal jamming device, and a large quantity of drugs were seized. In the searches conducted at the bar and cafe operated by the organization in Adana, a light machine gun, 4 unlicensed pistols, and numerous rounds of ammunition were found. In the searches of the workplaces and homes of other suspects, 2 Kalashnikov rifles, 3 light machine guns, 33 unlicensed pistols, 7 hunting rifles, 686 rounds of ammunition, 3.86 grams of marijuana, a signal jamming device, and fake IDs were seized.

After being taken into custody and interrogated, the 43 suspects were referred to the courthouse. The leader of the criminal organization, C.I., his son Y.I. (36), A.T. (24), F.K. (42), G.I. (33), and R.K. (27) were arrested, while the others were released under judicial control.

237-PAGE INDICTMENT

The public prosecutor completed the investigation into the criminal organization and prepared a 237-page indictment against the 43 defendants, 6 of whom were in custody. The indictment included charges of 'establishing a criminal organization with the intent to commit a crime', 'membership in a criminal organization', 'robbery for the benefit of the organization', 'premeditated murder', 'intentional injury', 'simple injury', 'purchase, transportation, and possession of firearms or ammunition that are significant in terms of quantity and quality'. While C.I. and his son Y.I. were each facing four aggravated life sentences, different penalties were requested for the other defendants. The indictment, which included 14 plaintiffs, was accepted by the 4th Heavy Penal Court of Adana.

3-DAY TRIAL

The trial of the defendants began and lasted for 3 days. The imprisoned defendants, including the leader of the criminal organization C.I., his son Y.I., A.T., and F.K., participated in the trial through the Audio and Visual Informatics System (SEGBIS) from their prisons, while G.I. and R.K. were present in the courtroom. The trial, attended by some of the released defendants and the lawyers of the parties, was recorded. The defendants denied the charges against them.

REQUESTED ACQUITTAL

In his defense, the leader of the criminal organization C.I. stated, "My defense during the investigation stage is true and valid, I repeat it. I do not accept the accusation of being a leader of a criminal organization and the related charges based on my leadership role." He requested his acquittal.

"I DENY THE CHARGES"

C.I.'s son Y.I., who held a managerial position in the organization, also denied the charges. Y.I. said, "I do not accept the charges of being a leader of a criminal organization or any other charges. In fact, I have already been tried and convicted for some of the actions. I do not accept the charges brought before your court."

The other defendants also stated that they had no connection to the criminal organization and denied the charges. The prosecutor, considering the nature of the charges and the status of the evidence, requested the continuation of the detention of the defendants and the resolution of other deficiencies.

NO DETENTION IN THE CASE FILE

The court decided to release the leader of the criminal organization C.I., his son Y.I., and the other defendants F.K., G.I., R.K., and A.T. considering that the evidence related to the charges against them had been collected, there was no suspicion of flight, and there was a possibility of the charges being changed in their favor. The court also decided to impose a travel ban and a monthly check-in requirement on all the released defendants. As for the other defendants who were still under judicial control, the court decided to continue the travel ban and other judicial control measures, except for those related to the deficiencies. The trial was adjourned for the resolution of the deficiencies.
