4 people drowned in a single day in Kuşadası

Strong winds and high waves in Kuşadası, Aydın caused a disaster. Throughout the day, 20 people were in danger of drowning, and 16 were rescued by teams. Four people, including teachers İlkay Ümit Özcan and Dursun Marmara, who came on holiday from Istanbul, lost their lives. Authorities warned citizens to be cautious due to adverse weather conditions.

The strong wind that has been effective in Kuşadası since the morning hours, reaching a speed of approximately 23 kilometers per hour, caused high waves and strong currents in the sea. Due to the adverse weather conditions, many people who entered the sea experienced difficult moments.

20 PEOPLE FACED DROWNING DANGER

On Sevgi Beach, where the most intense incidents occurred, 20 people faced the danger of drowning within approximately 1 hour. Upon notification, health, coast guard, and police teams were dispatched to the area. Through the coordinated efforts of the teams and support from local citizens, 16 people were rescued and brought to the shore.

4 PEOPLE LOST THEIR LIVES

İlkay Ümit Özcan (54), a teacher who was learned to have come to Kuşadası from Istanbul for a holiday, lost his life at Söke Fehime Kocagöz State Hospital after being taken out of the sea.

At the same hours, Dursun Marmara (79), who was trapped among giant waves, was brought to the shore with the help of citizens. Marmara, who received heart massage at the scene by health teams, could not be saved despite all interventions at Kuşadası State Hospital, where he was taken by ambulance.

According to information obtained from authorities, along with other drowning incidents that occurred at different points in Kuşadası during the day, the number of fatalities rose to 4.
