In Kenscoff, near Haiti's capital Port-au-Prince, 43 people were killed in an attack carried out by the 'Viv Ansanm' gang. The Mayor described the event as a 'massacre.' According to UN data, at least 1,642 people were killed in violent incidents in the country in the first quarter of 2026.
It has been reported that 43 people lost their lives in attacks carried out by a gang east of Haiti's capital, Port-au-Prince. According to news in the national press, an armed attack was carried out by the gang named "Viv Ansanm" on Sunday night in the town of Kenscoff, affiliated with the capital.
A reporter for the Gazette Haiti news portal stated that after the attacks, in which the attackers tried to take control of the town center, set houses on fire, and kidnapped many people, he saw 43 bodies on the streets of Kenscoff.
OPERATION CONTINUES IN THE REGION
While security forces repelled the gang attack, the operation in the region continues, and it was reported that bullet-riddled bodies were found on avenues and streets.
Kenscoff Mayor Jean Massillon, describing the events as a complete "massacre," stated in his statement to the "AlterPresse" agency that local authorities, together with judicial authorities, are carrying out official identification and examination procedures to remove the bodies.
VIOLENCE IN THE COUNTRY CANNOT BE PREVENTED
According to data from the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH), violent incidents in the country caused the deaths of at least 1,642 people and the injury of 745 people in the first quarter (January-March) of 2026.
It is noted that this toll includes the mass killings in which 83 people were killed within 72 hours in 16 settlements in the Lower Artibonite region between March 29-31.
