On January 16, around 08:00, while driving in Bağdat Avenue in the Kadıköy district of Istanbul, pediatrician Murat K. (50) hit Gizem Demirci (22) as she crossed the road after leaving her home for work. The young girl, who was seriously injured, lost her life after a 2-day struggle in intensive care at the hospital.
JET INDICTMENT FOR THE DOCTOR ARRESTED AGAIN 3 DAYS LATER
After the accident, Murat K. was taken into custody and was released by the court under judicial control. The Demirci family, who reacted to the doctor's release, claimed that the driver was speeding and was distracted by his phone at the time of the accident. According to a report by Sabah; Murat K. was re-arrested 3 days after the incident. The Istanbul Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office completed the investigation one day after the arrest decision.
"I WAS NOT DRUNK, I HAVE NO FAULT"
The suspect's statement was included in the prepared indictment. Murat K. stated that he heard a sound while driving and got out of the vehicle. "When I got out, the person I hit was lying on the ground. I went to him, called an ambulance. I was not drunk. I complied with the rules. I have no fault in the occurrence of the accident," he said.
FAULTS LISTED ONE BY ONE IN THE REPORT
The accident report added to the indictment stated that the suspect's vehicle did not comply with the speed, load, and technical characteristics of the vehicle, as well as the conditions required by visibility, road, weather, and traffic conditions, and that he was at fault.
6 YEARS IN PRISON IS DEMANDED
Up to 6 years in prison is requested for the crime of "causing death by negligence." The case was accepted by the criminal court to which it was sent. The court, which decided to continue the suspect's detention, sent the file to the Forensic Medicine Institution to determine the fault situation. The suspect will appear before the judge next month.
