WHAT HAPPENED?
In Istanbul and Yalova on April 7, a simultaneous operation was carried out at 30 addresses regarding actions constituting bribery crimes related to irregularities in the issuance of building and occupancy permits at the Uskudar Municipality. 22 suspects, including Uskudar Deputy Mayor Filiz Deveci and Kent Inc. General Manager Nazım Akkoyunlu, were detained.
Deveci and Akkoyunlu, along with a total of 9 suspects, were arrested, while other suspects were released after their procedures.
In their work within the scope of the investigation, the Istanbul Police Department Financial Crimes Branch teams identified the identities and addresses of suspects allegedly demanding financial benefits from contractors and project followers by citing project discrepancies in occupancy permit applications for constructions within the Uskudar Municipality's area of responsibility, determining these demands through evaluations involving senior managers, and obtaining benefits by approving occupancy procedures for structures violating regulations through cash, company accounts, and different channels.
After completing their work, the teams detained 7 suspects in an operation carried out on May 15.
