In an operation targeting leftist terrorist organizations in Istanbul, 76 suspects were apprehended. The operation, carried out against groups exploiting May 1st Labor and Solidarity Day, aims to prevent potential attacks against security forces.
The investigations conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office revealed that leftist terrorist organizations aimed to exploit May 1st Labor and Solidarity Day for organizational propaganda purposes, and in this context, they called for gatherings in Taksim Square and its vicinity despite the ban.
ARREST WARRANT FOR 84 SUSPECTS
After it was determined that suspects operating within the affiliated structures of terrorist organizations could provoke those gathering on May 1st to hold unauthorized demonstrations and could attack security forces with stones and sticks, an arrest warrant was issued for 84 suspects.
ORGANIZATIONAL DOCUMENTS SEIZED
In response, the Istanbul Police Department's Counter-Terrorism Branch teams launched a simultaneous operation, capturing 76 suspects involved in armed terrorist organizations such as DHKP/C, MLKP, TKP-ML, DSİH, TİKB/B, TİKB, TKEP/L, TKİP, TKP/KIVILCIM, MKP, and TKKKÖ. During searches conducted on these individuals, digital materials and organizational documents were seized.
The suspects were taken to the Istanbul Police Department's headquarters on Vatan Avenue for processing. It was understood that some suspects were abroad while others were in prison, and police teams continue their search for the fugitives.
