THE PENALTY FOR KIDNAPPING IN THE COUNTRY IS DEATH
Nigeria has long been facing attacks from armed gangs as well as terrorist organizations Boko Haram and ISWAP, the West African branch of ISIS, in various parts of the country.
Although the penalty for kidnapping in the country is death, incidents of kidnapping for ransom are common. Armed individuals typically target villages, schools, and travelers in the north of the country to demand ransoms.
