The Ministry of Trade has prepared a new regulation in retail trade. The draft aims to strengthen the supply chain, prioritize local products of women's cooperatives in chain markets, facilitate SME payment processes, and ensure bread is offered to citizens at more affordable prices through regulations targeting large bread producers.
The Ministry of Trade announced that it has initiated work to amend the regulation on principles and rules to be applied in retail trade.
In a statement from the Ministry, it was stated that a new draft regulation has been prepared based on the experiences gained in practice and the opinions and suggestions of sector representatives, with the aim of making retail trade more fair, transparent, and sustainable. It was noted that the draft has been opened for the opinion of relevant institutions and organizations.
SUPPLY CHAIN WILL BE STRENGTHENED
The prepared regulation aims to strengthen commercial relations between producers, suppliers, and retail businesses, support local trade, and ensure a healthier functioning of the supply chain.
In this context, it is planned to change the name of the regulation to "Regulation on Principles and Rules to be Applied in the Supply Chain."
Additionally, the concepts of producer and supplier will be added to the purpose and scope of the regulation, and the definitions of "producer," "supplier," and "agricultural and food product that can spoil within thirty days" will also be revised.
PRIORITY FOR WOMEN'S COOPERATIVES IN MARKETS
The Ministry also plans to create an inquiry screen to facilitate SME identification in order to ensure faster and more transparent payment processes in commercial activities.
On the other hand, in line with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's declaration of 2025 as the "Year of Cooperatives," it is aimed to prioritize local products produced by cooperatives, the majority of whose members are women, on chain market shelves.
With this regulation, it is intended to directly support women's labor and increase women's participation in economic life.
NEW REGULATION ALSO FOR BREAD
The draft also envisions implementing new regulations for large bread bakeries capable of mass production, in order to enable citizens to access bread at more affordable prices.
