A fraud allegation against a jeweler operating in Bursa's Grand Bazaar has caused a significant stir in the city. It has been claimed that dozens of people were collected money and gold with the promise of "gold operation" and regular profit shares, with the total victimization amounting to approximately 120 million lira. It is noteworthy that among the victims is a public prosecutor.
SURRENDERED MONEY SAVED FOR A WEDDING
According to the allegations, the suspects M.B.A., H.Ç.A., and E.B. assured customers that their gold would be operated and that profit shares would be distributed at regular intervals. About 40 people who fell for this promise handed over money they had saved for weddings, capital set aside for trade, or the cost of products to the jeweler. However, after a while, payments were cut off, and the principal amounts were not returned.
VICTIMS GATHERED IN FRONT OF THE JEWELER
After the incident became public, many victims gathered in front of the jeweler's shop to express their reactions. During the protest, which saw tense moments at times, citizens stated that they no longer believed in the promises that had deceived them. Some victims also raised allegations that the suspects were involved in illegal gambling. The suspects, however, claimed in their statements that the incident was not fraud but a commercial dispute. It was learned that some victims temporarily withdrew their complaints after promises of payment, but later filed criminal complaints again due to the failure to fulfill the promises.
JEWELERS' CHAMBER INVOLVED
İsa Altıkardeş, the President of the Bursa Jewelers' Chamber, stated that many victims have applied to the chamber, saying, "We have made efforts to resolve the issue, but so far no concrete results have been achieved." A comprehensive investigation into the incident is being conducted by the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
