A shark attack in Brazil's Pernambuco state has claimed a life. According to local media reports, a child was severely injured after being attacked by a shark while in the water. The child, whose clothes were torn, was rescued by nearby citizens and pulled from the water, but died while being transported to the hospital.
The shark attack that occurred in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil, has shocked the country. A 13-year-old boy who entered the sea at a tourist beach lost his life as a result of the attack, while the incident has raised security concerns in the area.
In a statement made on the social media account of the Brazilian Shark Incident Monitoring Committee (CEMIT), it was reported that the attack took place off the coast of the tourist resort of Chifre in the state of Pernambuco. The statement indicated that the 13-year-old boy was attacked by a shark while in the water.
DIED WHILE BEING TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL
According to local media reports, the boy, whose identity has not been disclosed, was pulled from the water by nearby swimmers who attempted to rescue him. However, the severely injured boy died in the ambulance while being transported to the hospital.
Reports stated that the boy was bitten by a shark on his right thigh, and that his heart and breathing suddenly stopped after the attack. According to information provided by the family, the injury was described as extremely severe.
"HIS RIGHT LEG WAS COMPLETELY SHREDDED"
The boy's cousin stated in an interview with TV Globo that during the attack, almost the entire right leg of the boy was shredded by the shark.
Following the incident, shark warnings were issued at numerous beaches in the state of Pernambuco, especially at Chifre beach where the attack occurred. Authorities warned citizens and tourists not to enter the water.
