A 15-year-old student died after falling onto an electric train track and being electrocuted after smoking marijuana.
Amy Hursey, 15, from Basingstoke, Hampshire, tragically lost her life on April 20th last year after falling onto the electric train rail.
Emergency services were called to Basingstoke train station at 5:22 pm after receiving reports of a person on the tracks. Unfortunately, Amy was pronounced dead at the scene.
An inquest into her death was held this morning in Winchester, Hampshire.
Coroner Jason Pegg said: "Amy stepped away from the platform and fell onto the electric rail, resulting in electrocution. It could not be determined whether Amy intended to fall from the platform or if it was an unconscious and involuntary movement, or if she simply stumbled and fell. There is a lack of clarity. However, I am certain that Amy had consumed a quantity of marijuana that likely impaired her cognitive function. I am confident that the marijuana contributed to her death. It diminished her cognitive function and judgment, which I believe led to her demise."
During the investigation, video footage was shown depicting the moments leading up to the tragedy, where Amy was seen walking and then falling onto the train tracks. However, the coroner acknowledged that the exact circumstances of the fall remained uncertain.
