In Bursa, a woman who had a bone from the meat dish she ate stuck in her throat narrowly escaped death. The 65-year-old woman, who could not even drink water due to the bone lodged sideways in her throat, was rushed into intervention and brought back to life.

N.K. (65), who had a bone piece approximately 5 centimeters long stuck in his throat while eating meat in Bursa, was rushed to the hospital due to severe pain and inability to swallow.

"HE COULDN'T EVEN DRINK WATER"

The sharp bone piece lodged in his esophagus was removed through an endoscopic intervention. Gastroenterologist Dr. Murat Pekgöz, who performed the surgery on N.K., who narrowly escaped death, said, "Our patient presented to our hospital as an emergency with sudden onset of throat stinging, pain, and inability to swallow while eating. They had given him water to drink several times, but the patient couldn't even drink water. During the emergency endoscopic examination, we saw a bone piece approximately 5 centimeters long with both ends sharp stuck sideways in the entrance of the esophagus. We successfully removed the bone piece through the endoscopic intervention."

"CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN WHEN CONSUMING MEAT"

Pekgöz, ahead of the upcoming Feast of Sacrifice, gave important warnings to citizens, stating that care should be taken especially when consuming meat. Pekgöz said, "With the Feast of Sacrifice, we are entering days of intense meat consumption. While butchery of sacrificial meat, caution should be exercised against bones. Some small pieces can remain among the meat. People may eat quickly due to the excitement and joy of the holiday, which brings serious risks. Bone pieces stuck in the esophagus can pose life-threatening dangers."

"CAN LEAD TO FATAL OUTCOMES"

Pekgöz added, "If the bone, as we saw in this patient, occurs, it can cause perforations in the esophagus, opening into the chest cavity, and even lead to fatal outcomes. We have encountered similar cases before. Quick intervention saves lives. In such situations, a hospital and a gastroenterologist should be consulted without delay."
