A 7.2 magnitude earthquake occurred in Peru's Ayacucho region. While panic was experienced in the area after the earthquake, which was also felt from the capital Lima, a landslide was observed in the mountainous area. No official statement has been made yet regarding any loss of life or serious damage in the earthquake.

EARTHQUAKE WITH MAGNITUDE 7.2

According to data from the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake was recorded at 1:00 PM local time, 38 kilometers northwest of the city of Upahuacho in the Ayacucho region. It was reported that the tremor occurred at a depth of 66.7 kilometers. The Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP) announced the magnitude of the earthquake as 7.2.

FELT FROM THE CAPITAL AS WELL

The strong tremor was felt in Ica and Arequipa in southern Peru, as well as in the capital, Lima. Following the earthquake, there was brief panic in the region, but no official statement has yet been made regarding any loss of life or serious damage.

MOVED THE MOUNTAINS

On the other hand, in images shared on social media, it was seen that a landslide occurred after the tremor in the mountainous region of Upahuacho, close to the epicenter of the earthquake.

It was reported that authorities are continuing their investigations in the region regarding possible damage and secondary hazards that the earthquake could cause.
