Brazilian brain surgeon Dr. Jacinto Lay survived a plane crash for the second time within 18 months. The 50-year-old doctor attempted to make an emergency landing on a highway in Teresina on Sunday due to engine failure.
The moment of the crash was captured on security cameras. The plane collided with a minibus and a motorcycle before crashing into a bus stop. Lay was rescued from the wreckage and taken to the hospital. He underwent surgery for brain injuries and leg fractures. His condition is serious but stable.
A woman on the motorcycle was also seriously injured in the accident. The passengers in the minibus escaped with minor scrapes.
Lay had contacted the control tower to report a propeller malfunction and his intention to make an emergency landing. An official investigation has been launched into the incident.
Interestingly, Lay had also survived another plane crash last March. Additionally, his plane was stolen by drug traffickers in January 2023 and later crashed with drugs on board.
