According to official statements and rescue teams, a bus carrying young students and teachers caught fire in the suburbs of Bangkok, resulting in the deaths of 25 people on board. Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungruengkit stated to reporters at the scene that the bus was transporting 44 passengers from central Uthai Thani province to Ayutthaya for a school trip, and the fire started in the Pathum Thani province, which is in the northern suburbs of the capital, around noon. Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul mentioned that they could not confirm the death toll yet as the investigation at the scene was still ongoing, but they were concerned that 25 people might have lost their lives based on the number of survivors. He also added that the bus was still too hot for them to safely enter. Hours after the fire, bodies were still found inside the bus. Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra expressed condolences in a post on the X social media platform and stated that the government would cover medical expenses and compensate the victim's families. Videos shared on social media showed the entire bus engulfed in flames while parked on the road, with thick clouds of black smoke rising. The ages of the students and other details are not yet known. A rescue worker at the scene told Suriya that the fire likely started due to a tire bursting and the vehicle rubbing against the road barrier.
