WHAT HAPPENED?On August 24, 2019, in Sultangazi, during a fight between two groups, the thrown scissors pierced the neck of Ezel Erdem, who was on her way to the park for a picnic with her family. Erdem became paralyzed from the neck down. Three days after the incident, Ümit Gök was arrested, and a case was opened against him for "causing injury with possible intent," with a request for up to 7 years and 6 months in prison. In the first hearing on November 12, 2019, at the Gaziosmanpaşa 10th Criminal Court of First Instance, the detained suspect Ümit Gök claimed that he threw the scissors in anger after seeing his mother and father being assaulted during the argument, and he did not know how the scissors hit the victim Ezel Erdem. The court also decided to release the suspect Ümit Gök with a request for judicial control. However, on the second hearing on March 5, 2020, the suspect Gök was re-arrested at the request of the Erdem family. However, he was released again on January 12, 2021.
