The prosecutor's office took action regarding the person who kicked a cat that came between his feet during the evening prayer in Erzurum. While it was learned that the cat, which flew up and hit the imam's head due to the force of the kick, is in good health, the suspect was detained as part of the investigation launched under the Animal Protection Law.
Following the incident at Adalar Mosque in the Aziziye district of Erzurum, which occurred during the evening prayer and was captured on security cameras, the prosecutor's office took action. The individual who kicked the cat that approached him during prayer was identified by police teams and taken into custody.
In the incident that took place on August 25, 2026, while the congregation was praying, a cat roaming inside the mosque tried to get between the feet of a person in the row.
THE CAT HE KICKED HIT THE IMAM'S HEAD
In the security camera footage, the person is seen suddenly kicking the cat during prayer. Due to the impact, the cat flew into the air, hit the head of the imam leading the prayer, and fell to the ground. After the footage of the incident emerged, the Erzurum Chief Public Prosecutor's Office took action.
THE SUSPECT WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY
The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that an ex officio investigation was launched within the scope of the Animal Protection Law based on the footage. As a result of the investigations, the identity of the suspect who kicked the cat was determined, and he was taken into custody.
THE CAT'S HEALTH CONDITION IS GOOD
It was learned that the health condition of the cat, which was kicked and hit the imam's head, is good. It was stated that the cat has no disability.

Regarding the images on some news sites and social media platforms showing 'a person from the congregation kicking a cat while praying in a mosque in Erzurum,' an ex officio investigation has been initiated by our Erzurum Chief Public Prosecutor's Office within the scope of the Animal Protection Law. As a result of the investigations, the suspect was identified and taken into custody. The investigation proceedings continue meticulously and multi-dimensionally."
