CHP Adana Deputy Müzeyyen Şevkin painted her face black in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey to honor the miners who lost their lives in mining accidents.

The General Assembly of the Turkish Grand National Assembly convened under the chairmanship of Deputy Speaker Bekir Bozdağ to discuss the 2025 budget proposals of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the Ministry of Health, and affiliated institutions and organizations. CHP Adana Deputy Müzeyyen Şevkin took the floor out of the agenda and came to the podium.

Şevkin drew attention to the loss of lives in mining accidents. Şevkin stated, "It has been exactly 10 months since the İliç massacre. The commission has ended, yet the commission report has not been released."

ALL OF A SUDDEN, SHE PAINTED HER FACE

Stating that mines belong to the people, Müzeyyen Şevkin began to paint her face with the black paint she brought with her. Şevkin said, "I paint this black for the miners who died in Soma, this black for the miners who died in Amasra, this black for the miners who died in İliç, and I also apply this black to my forehead for all our miners whom we could not protect. This black is the mark of all of us."
