While the lawsuit regarding the congress where Özgür Özel was elected as the Chairman of the CHP is ongoing, a striking claim has come from Yusuf Göğerkaya, a delegate of the CHP Erzurum Grand Congress. Göğerkaya stated in a television program, "I voted for Özgür Özel in exchange for 1500 dollars. The Erzurum Provincial Chairman received 300 thousand dollars."

Discussions continue regarding the 38th Congress of the Republican People's Party, where Özgür Özel was elected as the party leader. Days before the congress, a shocking claim came from a CHP member.

Speaking on a television program, Göğerkaya said, "The signatures we submitted were sent to Şaban Sevinç. We went to the hotel around 4 in the morning. Friends, everyone should send me a picture of their vote. This was said by the CHP Erzurum Provincial Chairman. We went, I voted, and took a picture. I voted for Özgür Özel in exchange for 1500 dollars. I know they used us financially. I didn't see the money directly, but the Erzurum Provincial Chairman received 300 thousand dollars," he expressed.

Göğerkaya also stated, "There are 3 people along with Özgür Özel who will receive votes. 8-9 votes were supposed to go to Kılıçdaroğlu. Kılıçdaroğlu lost by a very small margin. In the second round, there was a sense that there wouldn't be a second round of the congress. We went to the hotel and then they brought us back to the congress. From there, someone from İmamoğlu's team offers Abdulkadir Çakır money, 250 thousand lira. I received a phone call. He can cast his vote, we will deposit 150 thousand lira into his account. Even in the second round, there was a money war. You still say there is no fraud in the congress," he remarked.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The investigation initiated by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the allegations of irregularities at the 38th Ordinary Congress of the CHP, held on November 4-5, 2023, was completed on June 3.
In the prepared indictment, it was requested that 12 people, including Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is detained in the corruption investigation and removed from the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, face up to 3 years in prison and a political ban for the allegation of "manipulating the vote" under Article 112 of the Political Parties Law.
The indictment was sent to the Ankara 26th Criminal Court of First Instance, which ruled that the bribery allegations were serious crimes and decided to send the case to the heavy penal court.
The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office objected to the transfer of the case to the Ankara 3rd Heavy Penal Court, and the decision of lack of jurisdiction was lifted by the Ankara 3rd Heavy Penal Court's ruling on June 30, 2025. The case filed for the annulment of the CHP's 38th Ordinary Congress was postponed to September 15.
