ARREST WARRANT ISSUED
The Seoul Western District Court issued an arrest warrant for Yoon on charges of "leading a rebellion" and "abuse of power," citing that he "sent troops to the National Assembly to prevent lawmakers from lifting the martial law decision" in an "unsuccessful martial law attempt."
The Corruption Investigation Office plans to send Yoon to the prosecutor's office within 10 days. The prosecution is expected to question Yoon more comprehensively and prepare an indictment against him.
It was reported that Yoon, who testified in the aforementioned court early today after the Corruption Investigation Office's request for arrest, was taken back to the detention center.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Yoon, who was removed from office at the request of the National Assembly of South Korea on the grounds that the declaration of martial law was unconstitutional, was detained on January 15 as part of the martial law investigation.
Investigators took Yoon to the office of the Corruption Investigation Office located in Gwacheon, south of the capital Seoul, after detaining him at the presidential residence. It was reported that Yoon, who was questioned for more than 10 hours on the first day, refused to give a statement. Yoon, the first president in South Korean history to be detained, was transferred to the detention center after the interrogation.
Yoon is being investigated for "rebellion" and "abuse of office" due to the declaration of martial law on December 3, 2024.
