A diamond necklace belonging to Egyptian Queen Nazli Sabri, exhibited at the Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna, Austria's capital, was stolen by two people who entered the museum disguised as visitors. The suspects smashed the display case with a hammer, took the necklace, and disappeared. It was reported that the world-famous necklace was sold for 4.3 million dollars at an auction held in New York 10 years ago.
It has been reported that a diamond necklace worth millions of euros, belonging to Egyptian Queen Nazli Sabri, was stolen from the Museum of Applied Arts (MAK) in Vienna, the capital of Austria.
THEY SMASHED THE SHOWCASE WITH A HAMMER AND TOOK THE NECKLACE According to the report by the Austrian public broadcaster ORF, two people who entered the museum as visitors yesterday afternoon smashed the showcase where the necklace was displayed with a hammer and fled with it.
While the police have launched a large-scale operation to catch the suspects, footage from security cameras in the museum, on surrounding streets, and in metro stations has been taken under review.
Witnesses who were in the exhibition hall at the time of the incident were also interviewed.
While the police assess that the suspects knew in advance which piece they would steal, they did not provide information on whether the theft was carried out on order due to the ongoing investigation.
Egyptian Queen Nazli Sabri SUSPECTS BEING SOUGHT The police stated that images of the suspects were obtained from security cameras and that efforts to identify the two individuals are ongoing.
The exhibition, which was temporarily closed following the incident, was reopened to visitors after a security assessment with the police.
In a statement from MAK, it was noted that the necessary conditions were provided for the exhibition to operate safely.

The necklace, crafted in 1939 by the Paris-based luxury jewelry company, contains more than 600 diamonds.
The exhibition, featuring around 500 pieces, includes more than 300 works from the Paris-based luxury jewelry company spanning 120 years, along with over 200 pieces from the MAK collection.
